Dear NALI Members,
I am pleased to announce I am running for a second term as your National Director. I stand on my record, a record of sound and necessary accomplishments thanks to the dedication of the Executive Council and H. Ellis Armistead, CLI-Assistant National Director.
This is the most important NALI election in many years and for years into the future. The choice could not be clearer between the candidates for National Director. I believe I represent the future, NALI's progress into the 21st century.
Our NALI Constitution must be reviewed and brought current. Although it has handled the needs of the association, it needs to be reviewed and serve us as a baseline as NALI roars into the new millennium.
This past year has been an invigorating one. This administration deftly handled inherited financial problems of substance as well as many other unknown but very extreme time consuming difficulties. They have been resolved including immediate cash needs… in the short term for NALI.
We were able to overcome these hurtles because we had a hard working, very focused, EC dedicated to the betterment of the Association. In some instances to the serious detriment of their personal business’s and income. Being a member of this EC was not treated as an honorarium. This EC worked and worked hard for the most part.
I truly applaud almost each and everyone on the council. I do not applaud those that preferred to shout disagreement to the world via email postings that are a detriment as well as an embarrassment to NALI, wrapping themselves in the NALI banner or the over used cliche "In the best interest for NALI."
The majority of the Executive Council stands with me for reelection.
Danny Vara, CLI, LCI is running for RD IV and Mark J. Murnam for RD 111. I extend my congratulations to Dan and Mark for "stepping up to the plate.” The following people are running with me for a second term. Their confidence in me is truly appreciated. I will not knowingly disappoint them or you, the NALI member.

There are three constitutional amendments on the ballot this year. I support each.
It is my intent to expand Comptroller Hilke's duties and responsibilities in the months ahead into the area of membership services. I believe this will bring NALI into the era of Professional Management.
On the date that President Bush signed into law the changes sought in the FCRA by Texas Representative Pete Sessions, the immediate need for NALI to have an aggressive Legislative effort ended. No NALI funds have been spent on legislation this term.
That will change on a case need basis only. NCISS is the Professional Investigators voice on the hill. NALI will maintain a place at the table with NCISS and promulgate the NCISS position when that position is in the best interest of the NALI members.
NALI MUST maintain its core purpose for being, which is "Education, Competence, Ethics and our Code of Conduct"
In that view, we the National Officers and Regional Directors must continue to treat each member as if they are the only member…of NALI. This approach has been demonstrated by the current administration. When the member has a problem or concern so does this association.
When a member inquires about something they did not or do not understand their concerns need to be addressed. Professionally on a consistent non-partisan basis.
There are NALI members that have a special quality about them that when in their presence we, the average member recognize we are associating with an individual that is a ”notch” above the rest regardless of length of membership or what that individual has given to NALI. Some may not be with us currently, others remain but it is my intent to honor them in special ways.
The decision is up to you, the members of NALI. It is time to vote. Your decision is straightforward. I ask for your continued support and assistance as we continue the journey.
